The black leather is crispy like a potato chip on the area that you would grip the binoculars. It is about 10 inches across and 4 3/4 inches wide. There is a faint personalization on the case bottom. The original leather hinge failed at some point in the past and has been reinforced by a thick piece of darker brown leather that is riveted and glued to the back of the case. The original leather case has two internal steps, and purple velveteen lining. Distance from ocular to front of binoculars is 4 1/4 inches. WW1 Imperial German gun sight serial number '1972' by 'CP Goerz Berlin' with mounting bracket by 'Franz Stock, Berlin' in leather case marked 'AW 10 15' and a pair of WW1 French made British Binoculars complete in leather case dated 1917 (1) November Three Day Specialist Sale. The lenses are clean and scratch-free, and provide a good sight picture (with proper adjustment). On the underside of the frame, near the brass disk is the number '75208'. In spite of the advanced age, the leather covering on the main body is complete on both sides, though showing obvious evidence of use and wear. There is a knurled tension knob on the front of the frame. The brass disk in the center is marked '7X' and has a graduated scale with indices numbers 54-74. Looking at the body of these binoculars from the ocular side 'C.P Goerz Berlin' is on the left side, and on the other side, 'Trieder Binocle A(XX)ee Mod.Pat.' (XXX's indicate unreadable letters). We do not know this of our own knowledge, so we are making no claims, but we have provided numerous photos and will provide you with all the particulars so that you can make your own determination.
